What is the Role of the Personal Project Supervisor?
As a Personal Project Supervisor you are a facilitator, who will guide students through the process of completing the Personal Project. Together, supervisor and student, form a very important partnership.
The supervisor’s responsibilities include:
• making sure that the chosen personal project topic satisfies appropriate legal and
ethical standards with regard to health and safety, confidentiality, human rights, and
environmental issues
• providing guidance to students in the planning, research and completion of the
Personal Project
• confirming the authenticity of the work submitted
• assessing the Personal Project according to the criteria
• taking part in the internal standardization of the assessment process established by
the school
• making sure that students are aware of deadlines
In addition, as supervisor you should give support and guidance with:
• a timetable with deadlines
• guidelines about the personal project
• the assessment criteria
• advice on how to keep and use a process journal
• the importance of personal reflection and analysis
• feedback on the student's progress with formative feedback
• the need for students to keep a positive attitude
• making sure that students understand their responsibility
• making sure that students are organized
•guiding students and making sure they understand about the requirements for academic honesty
As a supervisor should NOT:
· take over the project and do it for students
· accept less than the best efforts of their student
· fail to report any student who continually misses appointments and deadlines to the
